BHUBANESWAR: Eleven districts in the state didn’t undertake
Covid vaccination on Tuesday because they had no vaccine stock. Around 1000 sites remained shut while inoculation went on in 495 sites, down from 824 a day earlier, in 19 districts.
The 11 districts, where the
vaccine drive ceased to take place are Bhadrak, Boudh,
Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Jajpur,
Jharsuguda, Koraput, Nayagarh,
Puri,
Sambalpur and Sonepur. The 19 districts saw 66787 people getting the shot, which included the first and second dose. Tuesday’s vaccine figure is down by around 75, 000.
The government altogether has identified 1500 sites but due to shortage of vaccines, inoculation couldn’t be carried out in one third of the sites. So far, 45, 850, 49 beneficiaries have taken the vaccine shot since the launch out of which 281852 Covix shots have been given while the remaining are Covishield. The total vaccination count includes first and second dose of healthcare workers and frontline workers also.
Bijay Panigrahi, director, family welfare, said the state on Tuesday received two lakh doses of Covishield to increase coverage from Wednesday. “We are hopeful that number of sites for vaccination will increase on Wednesday as we have received the fresh consignment of vaccine. There is no problem now with infrastructure at the vaccination sites,” he said.
The capital city on Monday recorded close to 9000 beneficiaries getting the shot in 61 sites. “There is no shortage of vaccine for the city. We have around 80,000 doses in stock. People are not coming as expected because they are wary of coming out due to Covid cases going up,” said CVSN Rao, additional district urban public health officer.
The city so far has vaccinated 2.60 lakh beneficiaries although the number of beneficiaries taking both doses is still low at 60,000.
Officials said the daily vaccination of 45-plus age group of people is going well in the state and capital as well. The capital on an average runs 60 vaccine sites daily with 200 doses being consumed at each site a day.
