Refilled oxygen cylinders arrive at the Covid facility at Civil Hospital
AHMEDABAD: A record 390 housing clusters are now under micro-containment in the city, the highest since the pandemic began. Nearly 75% of the 5,705 active Covid cases are in the western part of the city.
Municipal officials are now worried about areas such as Paldi, Bodakdev, Bopal-Ghuma, Thaltej, Jodhpur, Vejalpur, Gota and Chandkheda where a lack of precautions are leading to more infections. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials said that just these eight areas account for 50% of the total active cases.
“The positivity rate of rapid antigen tests about 25% in these eight western areas, while it hovers between 4% to 9% for the walled city, East Zone and South Zone,” said an AMC official.
On Monday, 26 new micro-containment zones were added to the list. Of these, 10 were in the East Zone in areas such as Ramol, Bhaipura, Vastral and Nikol, where some 1,304 persons have been put in containment. In the western areas houses under containment included 48 at Godrej Garden City.
In Bodakdev, 28 houses of Samrajya Towers were quarantined. In Chandlodia, 36 houses at Shantipujya Society and 40 houses at ICB Park were put in containment. Municipal officials added that a large portion, almost 70% of the municipal North West Zone and South West Zone are marked ‘pink’ according to our Covid surveillance data . “This is worrisome,” said an official.
In focus on Monday were areas of western Ahmedabad, especially the North West Zone which saw seven new micro-containment zones notified, where 900 residents have been contained.
