Kerala reports 7,515 new COVID cases, 2,959 recoveries: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 13 (UNI) Kerala on Tuesday reported 7,515 fresh cases of COVID-19, while 2,959 patients recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
"In the last 24 hours, COVID was not detected in any person who recently came to Kerala from the UK (total 112 now) and their samples have been sent to NIV, Pune for further testing. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus," the minister said in a press release here this evening.
Meanwhile, 20 recent deaths were confirmed on Tuesday due to COVID taking the death toll in the state to 4,814.
The minister said 73,441 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 10.23 %. Till now, a total of 1,38,87,699 samples have been sent for testing.
On Tuesday, 14 more places were identified as new hotspots while one place was excluded from the list, taking the total to 416 hotspots in the state.
