Contactless jumps to 63% of Dutch retail payments in 2020

Electronic payments increased to 79 percent of all retail transactions in the Netherlands last year, up from 67 percent in 2019, according to research by the industry association Betaalvereniging Nederland and the central bank (DNB). Only one in five of electronic payments was made with a traditional bank card and PIN code, while 80 percent were contactless, either with a card or smartphone.
