Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday announced that its Yellow Line and Red Line entry gates will be closed. However, few of the metro stations were opened.
In a tweet, the DMRC said the entry gates of six metro stations in the Yellow Line – New Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Seelampur, Kashmere Gate, Saket, and Qutub Minar – have been closed to maintain social distancing as part of crowd control measures.
Minutes after the announcement, the entry gates for Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, Saket, and Qutub Minar have been opened. However, the entry gate of Kashmere Gate metro station, which also connects to the Red Line, still remains closed.
Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line (Line 2) comprises 37 metro stations from Samaypur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Centre in Gurugram, Haryana.
The national capital reported 11,491 new cases of coronavirus infections on Monday, its highest single-day spike in fresh cases since the beginning of the pandemic last year.
According to the Delhi government’s health ministry, the city also reported 77 more virus-related deaths. Delhi on Sunday registered 10,774 cases and 48 Covid-19 deaths.
The positivity rate among Covid-19 patients in Delhi is now 12.44 percent, higher than it was on November 21 of last year.
Delhi’s caseload has now exceeded the 38,000-mark. The figure now stands at 38,095.
However, in view of increasing coronavirus cases, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the government was not in favor of imposing lockdown in the national capital but if the healthcare system collapsed then there won’t be an option. He requested people to follow Covid-19 protocols and appealed to them to go to the hospital only when it’s urgent.

He also requested the Centre regarding the removal of age restrictions on taking the #COVID19 vaccine. He said the Delhi government is ready to conduct a door-to-door campaign to vaccinate people. 65% of patients in Delhi are below 35 years of age.
