COVID-19 guidelines violation: FIR lodged against three Opposition MLAs in Bihar for flouting norms

An FIR has been lodged against three Opposition Bihar legislators and hundreds of others in Rohtas district for violation of COVID-19 guidelines during a public function on April 11.

The Bihar government also deputed three administrative officers in three government hospitals on Tuesday to monitor situation following a rush of patients.

Two of the three MLAs charged — Anita Devi from Nokha and Vijay Kumar Mandal from Dinara — are from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) while, Arun Kumar Singh of the Communist Party of India(Marxist-Leninist) is MLA of Karakat.

Mr. Mandal told The Hindu, “I do not have to say anything on the FIR. If I’ve done wrong, an FIR must be lodged against me but it should not be selective. Recently, Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey had come to Dinara and after returning from here his staff members tested positive. Why was an FIR not lodged against him and his staff for spreading the virus. The law is for everyone, not only for the Opposition party members,” he added.

Meanwhile, due to the rising number of COVID-19 patients in government hospitals in Patna, the government deputed three IAS officer Rajiv Roushan at Patna Medical College and Hospitals (OMCH), Pankaj Dixit at Nalanda Medical College and Hospitals (NMCH) and Rajkumar at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna to monitor the situation. State Health Minister Mangal Pandey also visited the NMCH to review preparedness amid the surge in cases.

In last 24-hours 2,999 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the state while, total number of active cases went up to 17,052. Sixteen deaths were reported in the state in last 24 hours.
