COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Corporation on Monday sealed a coffee shop on the Race Course Road as customers did not wear masks and maintain social distancing.
On Friday, the shop was fined for the same reason. A source said the shop owner had been asked to pay a fine Rs 20,000.
On Monday, civic body officials, who were on inspection rounds, sealed Velan Coffee Shop. This was after they saw a group of customers crowding around tables outside the shop and not maintaining social distancing.
“There were at least four to five people standing around the tables and drinking coffee,” said an on-looker.
A corporation official said they were not wearing masks.
The employees, who were told to leave the premises, as the outlet was going to be sealed, picked up an argument with the officials and blocked the road. More than 10 employees staged the protest that lasted 15 minutes.
If the corporation commissioner’s warning rings true, the shop is likely to stay shut for a week, according to sources.
The shop had been under the scanner during the earlier Covid-19 wave as it had failed to control the crowd.
