Jamtara, Apr 12 (UNI) Three men lost their lives while nine others sustained injuries following a collision between a mini bus and a truck at Panjuniya on the Dumka-Nala-Asansol main road under Nala Police Station area of this district on Monday.
Police said that the mini-bus was carrying 12 workers from IOCL office of Nala who were involved in construction of Haldia-Barauni pipeline project to their work site at Kundhit block when a head on collision took place between the two vehicles in which three workers died and many others sustained serious injuries.
Upon receiving information, a police team led by SDPO Nala reached on the spot and sent the injured to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Dipankar Mohan (19) and Pranjal Sonwal from Assam and Pankaj Yadav (24) from Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh.
After the incident, the truck driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. Agitated over the incident, people blocked traffic movement on the road demanding compensation for the deceased and construction of speed breakers on the road.
Due to the agitation, a long queue of vehicles was stranded on both sides of the road. After more than two hours police managed to convince the protesters to call off their agitation.
