It’s genocide, says Didi; CM provoked it, counters Shah

KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has termed as “genocide” the incident in which four people died in firing by central forces at a polling booth in Sitalkuchi in the Cooch Behar district on Saturday and called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah “incompetent”. All four were from the minority community.
“It is genocide. We have decided to observe today [Sunday] as a black day. The forces fired on them directly. The CISF is trained to provide security to industries and not to control a mob. I could not sleep last night but the Prime Minister was eating sweets. Such an incompetent government, incompetent Prime Minister, incompetent home minister,” she told reporters in Siliguri, north Bengal on Sunday.
Meanwhile at Santipur in Nadia district, Shah alleged that Mamata has “politicized” the Sitalkuchi violence. “A voter by the name of Anand Burman was killed but Mamata Didi condoled only the deaths of the other four people. Appeasement and vote bank politics even in death shows how much she has lowered the politics in Bengal,” he said.
