Puducherry, Apr 12 (UNI) The spike in COVID-19 cases continued in the Union Territory with 512 persons tested positive for the Coronavirus and two deaths reported during the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM on Monday, taking the tally of infection cases to 44,555 and death toll to 693.
The Coronavirus cases recorded since the last two days was 272 and 306.
According to COVID-19 status released by the health department here this afternoon, of the 3,451 swab sample tests conducted on Sunday, 512 persons tested positive for the virus.
As many as 403 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 86 in Karaikal region,16 in Yanam region and seven in Mahe region.
About 232 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours. Of them, 147 were from Puducherry region, 79 from Karaikal region, and six from Mahe region.
One death each were reported in Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
Presently, 452 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, 53 in Karaikal region, 35 in Yanam region and seven in Mahe region. Another, 2047 persons taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of the UT after diagnosed positive.
So far, 44,555 persons were infected by COVID and of which 41,268 patients were treated and discharged, 693 people died and 2,594 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.
The case fatality rate in the UT is 1.56 per cent and the recovery rate is 92.62 per cent.
A 69-year-old woman Bankajavalli Devaraj with diabetes mellitus and hypertension as comorbidity died in Jipmer due to Covid Pneumonia and ARDS yesterday while, a 53-year-old man Pazhanivel with hypertension and cardio disease succumbed in the Karaikal Government hospital due to Covid Pneumonia.
As many as 96,388 persons were given COVID vaccine so far in the UT. This includes 28,723 healthcare staff,16,512 frontline workers and 51,153 are general public.
