CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations on Monday postponed Class XII language exam, scheduled to be held on May 3, to May 31.

In a release, the directorate said the exam is postponed in view of the counting of votes to the Tamil Nadu assembly elections on May 2.

"However, the rest of the exams will be held as scheduled. The standard operating procedures to be followed during the exams will be announced later," the release said.

More than eight lakh candidates are scheduled to appear for the Class XII exams.

At a review meeting on Monday, the Tamil Nadu government sought the opinion of experts on postponing the exam in view of the rising Covid-19 cases. After receiving a go ahead from health experts, the government directed to conduct the exams following the SOPs.
