SHRC seeks report on cop attacking people at Coimbatore eatery

CHENNAI: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday issued a notice to Coimbatore city police commissioner S Davidson Devasirvatham seeking a detailed report on the assault of the employees and customers of an eatery in Coimbatore by a sub-inspector of police.
Sub-inspector Muthu, 36, of Kattoor station (law&order) assaulted the employees and customers alleging that the eatery at Gandhipuram was kept open even after the 'permitted time'. The incident happened around 10.20pm on Sunday. As per the Covid-19 standard operating procedures, eateries shall be permitted to operate with 50% occupancy till 11pm.
Taking suo motu cognizance of a news report published by the Times of India website, the SHRC directed the police commissioner to submit a report within two weeks.
