Actor Deepika Padukone has resigned as chairperson of Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image(MAMI). The actor said with her current slate of work, she will be unable to give undivided focus and attention to the academy.
In a statement shared on her Instagram stories on Monday, the 35-year-old actress wrote, Being on the board of MAMI and serving as Chairperson has been a deeply enriching experience. As an artist, it was invigorating to bring together cinema and talent from all over the world to Mumbai, my second home. I have come to realise, however, that with my current slate of work, I will be unable to give MAMI the undivided focus and attention it requires. I depart knowing that MAMI is in the best hands possible and that my bond and connection with the academy is one that will last a lifetime, she said.
In July 2019, Padukone took over from filmmaker Kiran Rao as Chairperson of MAMI. Rao served as the chairperson for four years. Expressing her happiness, the actor had said at that time that its an absolute honour and a huge responsibility. I believe in MAMI’s vision and we are committed towards creating a community that cinema lovers and creators of a film passionate nation like ours truly deserve. She had added.
For the unversed, MAMI is a public trust that organises the annual international film festival in Mumbai known as the Mumbai Film Festival (MFF). The Mumbai Film Festival, however, was cancelled last year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Talking about Padukone’s slate of work, she is currently working on Shakun Batra’s untitled project co-starring Ananya Pandey and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She is also busy shooting for Pathan featuring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. Also, she will be seen in a special role in Ranveer Singh’s upcoming sports drama, 83.

Besides, the actor has a few films in the pipeline which are to soon begin filming. It includes a film with Baahubali star Prabhas, a film titled Fighter alongside Hrithik Roshan, and a Bollywood remake of The Intern, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan.
