Covid-19: Mysuru district races ahead in vaccination

Mysuru roads are deserted following night curfew.
MYSURU: Amid Covid-19 second wave, which resulted in the sudden surge in the number of positive cases, Mysuru district has raced ahead in vaccination to the targeted population.
According to the state Covid-19 vaccination report, on Saturday the district recorded the highest number of vaccine administrations in the state with 126% achievement.
As per the bulletin, the district was given a target of vaccinating for 25,050 persons, while the number of those jabbed stands at 32,067, said to be the highest in the state.
According to the report, Mysuru district is in the forefront during April 1-10. In these 10 days, 1,68,686 persons have been vaccinated in the district.
On April 9 alone, 31,423 were vaccinated. DC Rohini Sindhuri said that to ensure maximum vaccination coverage, two different sets of strategies — one for taluks and the other for Mysuru city — are being followed.
“Out of the targeted 8.50 lakh population, 5 lakh are residing in the taluks, while 3.50 lakh are in city. In taluk level, we formed task forces involving watermen, PDOs, ASHA workers, Anganavadi workers. We are arranging vehicles to bring people to vaccination centres, and the efforts are paying off. In Mysuru city, we started a free vaccination drive even in private hospitals, a first-of-itskind experiment in India. We are able to hold up to 45 sessions in private hospitals per day, and this helped us,” she explained.
Till 3.30 pm on Sunday, Mysuru topped the list of districts by vaccinting 3,74,754 persons. Belagavi stood second with 3,63,584 persons being jabbed. The figure for Bengaluru city was 10,08,310 persons.
