Four startups selected for Water Challenge

Hyderabad: Four finalists are shortlisted for Water Challenge 2021, launched in February-March 2021 by the Smart City Living Lab and The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H). water management.

This shortlist includes Oceo Water Pvt Ltd – Pipeline Water Leak Detection from Space (Jalashay). It uses hydrological analysis based on AI based on satellite imagery to help public utilities predict and detect water leaks in water transmission networks without being physically on the field. Another entity IIITH -Smart Water Meter Solutions has offered low cost adaptation for the digitization of analog water meters, which is a viable replacement for expensive digital water meters. EyeNet Aqua & IITM has proposed online water quality monitoring units for water sources and end-use nodes with native chlorine sensors along with other sensors. Aqua-Q AB, SWEDEN – Water quality monitoring solution offers real-time online warning system for quality assurance, smart sampling, detection of micro-pollution and removal of pollution in drinking water and treated wastewater.

These shortlisted solutions will be demonstrated at IIITH within a month and the winner will have the chance to do a solution launch in one of the cities Telangana.

The challenge was launched in collaboration with the government of Telangana and the National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM) to find viable solutions to the problems facing cities in terms of water quality, water supply and non-revenue water.

According to AnuradhaVattem, the chief architect who coordinated the challenge, the panelists shortlisted these four after four rounds and thorough selection. Vamsi Kondoju, Special Services Officer to MA&UD Secretary General, who was one of the panel members, said: “Although all the presentations were really good, we finalized these solutions with the importance and priority of MA&UD in mind”.
