FAME scheme to scale up EV adoption in India: Report

The adoption of EVs in India, though slow, has been steady in recent years and the government’s target to electrify 70 per cent of all the commercial vehicles, 30 percent of private cars, 40 per cent of buses and 80 percent of two-wheeler and three wheeler sales by 2030 will further push the reform in the right direction, according to a new report.

The study by consultancy firm JMK Research & Analytics titled ‘EV Charging Infrastructure in India’ appreciated the role of the government for launching schemes like Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles India (FAME) 1 & 2 and also the industry players who are assisting to facilitate this change.

“While the Government has been supporting the EV industry through schemes FAME1 & 2 with a major focus on charging infrastructure, the industry players have been building the ecosystem through the development of hardware (charger/EVSE), software (Central Management System/mobile app), and service (maintenance of charging stations and other hardware/software),” it said.
