Varanasi, Apr 11 (UNI) Ahead of crucial Panchayat Elections in Uttar Pradesh, a Pradhan candidate contesting from Inderpur village under Baragaon police station was shot dead on Saturday night.
Police here on Sunday said Vijendra Yadav alias Pappu (45), a former head of Inderpur village and again trying his luck in Panchayat elections this time, was shot dead by miscreants on Saturday night.
The reason for the incident as per the police investigating said to be land dispute along with the election and personal rivalry.
Police recovered seven empty cartridges from the spot and four people were also taken in custody in connection with the crime.
According to the police, the deceased Vijendra Yadav was a 'history-sheeter' of the Baragaon police station.
Deceased Vijender Yadav, a resident of Inderpur village under the Baragaon police station, was elected village head unopposed 15 years ago. For the past 10 years, his wife Mamta Yadav was the head of Inderpur village. Vijender was also associated with the Samajwadi Party. This time Vijendra Yadav was again contesting the election of village head.
Police said Yadav was coming to his house on a motorcycle from Bargaon when some miscreants shot him seven bullets near Saira village. Vijendra was immediately rushed to BHU Trauma Center, where he was declared dead.
SP (Rural) Amit Verma said three police teams have been deployed to nab the criminals.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased created ruckus at the BHU, seeking action against the culprits.
