Imphal, April 11 (UNI) Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday inaugurated the four-day 'Tika Utsav', a special COVID-19 vaccination drive and took the first jab of the coorna vaccine at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital in Imphal East District.
The nation-wide campaign has been organised to speed up vaccination to contain the second wave of the COVID pandemic.
After receiving the vaccine, the Chief Minister stated that he had not experienced any adverse effect. He then made his earnest appeal to all those, whose are 45 years and above, to get inoculated and extend support to Government’s efforts towards preventing the second wave of COVID-19. The Chief Minister also urged
the public to continue following COVID appropriate behaviours and avoid crowding.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, Works Minister Biswajit, MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba and Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairperson L Radhakishore also took the first dose of the vaccine along with the Chief Minister.
N Biren Singh pointed out that human lives are so precious and to a live healthy is very important. After witnessing a remarkable fall in the past few months, the state is now experiencing a steady rise of active cases the past few days, the Chief Minister said and added that positive cases have being detected at Bir Tikendrajit
International Airport and key entry points like Mao and Jiribam. That is why, the Chief Minister said, the State Government had begun keeping strict vigil like earlier.
The CM also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inquired from him about the present COVID-19 situation in the state over the phone, stating that the PM had instructed him to manage the
pandemic by announcing micro containment zones instead of clamping total lockdowns.
Maintaining that no adverse effect had been reported so far in the state except a couple of cases, the Chief Minister also appealed to the media to include the medical history of the patients as well while reporting about the cases of adverse effects.
126 centres are now active across the state to vaccinate the people whose are 45 years and above. It may be mentioned that the nation-wide rollout of COVID-19 vaccination began on January 16, 2021 with healthcare workers being the first beneficiaries.
Inoculation of front-line workers began in the State from February 8 this year followed by vaccination of those who are 45 years and above with co-morbidities from March 1.
Meanwhile in the past twenty-four hours, 9 persons (4M, 5F) from general population and a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) man were confirmed as new COVID 19 positive cases at JNIMS (2), RIMS (3),
Babina Diagnostics (2) and Shija Hospital (3).
They were from Imphal East (2), Imphal West (6) and Kakching (1). In the last 24 hours, a 59-year-old male from Imphal West expired at RIMS. The cumulative number of deaths now stands at 376.
The total number of discharged persons was 3 all from Home Isolation. The cumulative number of positive cases was 29,496 (General Population — 26.042 and Central Security Personnel — 3,454). The cumulative number of recovered cases was 29,013 (General Population — 25,576 and Central Security Personnel — 3,437). The number of active cases was 107 (General Population — 94 and Central Security Personnel— 13). The recovery rate was 98.36 %.
Air passengers who travelled to the State on April, 10 by Air Asia flight I5-7008 in rows 5-11 were asked to inform the Common Covid Control Room 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) immediately.
