1,250 motorists penalized for violation of lockdown norms in Thane

THANE: As many as 386 vehicles were seized and over 1250 motorists penalized by the Thane traffic department for violating safety norms during lockdown on Saturday.
Balasaheb Patil, deputy commissioner of police, traffic, Thane informed that they conducted strict vigil across the 18 units within the commisionerate on Saturday to clamp down on those violating the lockdown norms.
“Several motorists found riding beyond permissible limits or sitting besides the driver in four wheelers were penalised. Also, the vehicles of those motorists who were found driving without valid reasons was also impounded,” said Patil.
Police chief Vivek Fansalkar, Friday, had appealed to residents to follow safety guidelines and avoid travelling unnecessarily over the weekend but few motorists were seen flouting norms following which the police took action.
