Jomo Sono has hinted that he would consider taking the vacant Bafana Bafana hotseat if approached by the South Africa Football Association.

The 65-year-old owner and head coach of Jomo Cosmos has previously coached his country, at the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations where they finished second, and at the 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan.

Previous incumbent Molefi Ntseki was sacked recently after failing to steer Bafana to the 2022 AFCON.

Speaking to KickOff, the Orlando Pirates legend explained: "I don't know, I will cross the bridge when I get to it."

Sono says he could help Bafana in an advisory role, as he has done previously.

"I will only give a proper answer once I'm approached, at the moment no one has approached me," he said.

"I did it in 1996 (AFCON) working as an advisor, 1998 I was a head coach, I then became a caretaker, 2002 I went to the World Cup...where I won a four-nations cup, the one they don't want to talk about. We played in it  before the World Cup. There was Korea Invitation, Switzerland, Turkey and South Africa. We beat Turkey in the final.

"We then went to Korea where we unfortunately finished second in our World Cup group and only losing out on a spot in knockout stages on a goal difference. So when I get closer to the bridge I will comment.

"I don't have interest as such, but when it's your country certain things might compel you to agree to help. But for me there won't be a problem to be honest, I'm a football person I love this game so...it wouldn't be the issue of money. If they now desperately need somebody and they approach me, I will think about it."
