Telangana also hit by COVID-19 vaccine card

Hyderabad: Telangana also joined the states for which there is a shortage Covid-19 vaccines as the state government encouraged the center to give at least 30 lakh doses immediately.

Secretary-General Somesh Kumar wrote to the Union Health Secretary that the state had left only 5.66 lakh doses of vaccine that would last a maximum of three days.

‘Covid-19 vaccination has been increased in the state. As a result of joint efforts, the number of vaccinations in the state in one day exceeded 1.15 lakh. In the coming days, it will be improved to more than two lakh per day, ‘Somesh Kumar wrote in a letter dated April 10.

“Therefore, I would urge you to give at least 30 lakh doses of vaccine to Telangana urgently over the next 15 days,” the letter reads.

The general secretary sent the letter a day after state health officials claimed there were no vaccine shortages in the state.

Meanwhile, the state health authorities administered 1 62885 doses on Saturday. This is the highest number of doses given so far in a single day. This includes 9,090 beneficiaries who received the second dose.

According to the director of public health, the added cumulative doses increased to 20,61,395, including 2,99,742 second doses.

The vaccines given on Saturday include 781 health workers, 22,578 front-line workers and 1,39,026 beneficiaries aged 45 and over.

The Department of Health increased vaccination last week and announced that vaccination will be done throughout all government and private vaccination centers, including Sundays and public holidays.

The number of vaccination centers increased to 1,176, including 944 government-controlled centers.
