Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on pilgrimage to Sabarimala

Thiruvananathapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan climbed the sanctuary of Sabarimala on Sunday to have a darshan of Lord Ayyappa.

With the 5km uphill trek, he wore the traditional “Bead Mala” and wore the “Irumudi Kettu” on his head, like all devotees.

The Sabarimala shrine was in controversy after the Supreme Court lifted the bar in 2018 for access to women aged 10-50. According to traditions, Sabarimala did not allow women to enter the Australian era because the deity is said to be in celibate form.

The government of the Left Democratic Front under Pinarayi Vijayan announced that he would implement the ruling of the apex court, although it led to street protests, led by the BJP-RSS, and devotees blocked any woman from entering. The debate from left in the 2019 general election is attributed to the Sabarimala issue.

Meanwhile, the case is being reviewed by a larger bank in the Supreme Court.
