Manpower Management

"Sir I have exams from date after tomorrow, date sheet came yesterday so I wont be coming to office from tomorrow" this line from an employee shook me.

"But what after exams. You exams will finish on 15th" I asked

"Sir sister's wedding is on 30th so I will need a break for 10-12 days and then my final exam would start. I will be able to come regular from May end or June beginning only", the reply was ready.

"Do you even realize what you are doing? How will I arrange a new candidate immediately? You took your salary and gave your resignation from tomorrow onwards" I replied.

"Sorry Sir, but date sheet came yesterday evening only. I have no other option" she replied.

So basically all the efforts which I had put in her; all the time I had invested in teaching her became zero. Now again I will have to search for a new employee, train that individual and be ready for this again. Twice this thing has happened in the last 3-4 months.

They say their is unemployment, my point is most of the people are not willing to work. This is the major issue while starting a new practice. Either you need articles who are not easily available too because they prefer old CA firms or you look for freshers who are raw but are unwilling to learn or work.

Then I contacted a candidate who had applied for a job earlier. He was a fresher but his expectations were around 13-15k pm. I mean why should I pay 13-15k pm, teach them only to see them leaving for more.

When you start a new venture you need to build a team around you. My point has always be simple that your salary will eventually increase with the learning you will get. Why would I say no to a salary hike to person whom I have trained for 5-6 months? Training a new candidate is one of the toughest things.

 

Getting a quality manpower is by far the hardest thing when you expand your venture. Meanwhile candidates also need to understand that with this kind of behavior you are also blocking the path of other deserving candidates. If you don't want to work then stay at home, don't apply. 

These things give useless headaches. For example, my focus has totally shifted to finding a new candidate for my work rather than effectively focusing on my work.

I had taught that candidate about GST, Income tax, TDS, book keeping in the last month or so, but all efforts have been put to vain.

 

I don't know about bigger cities but arranging a manpower who is willing to learn and grow is certainly an issue in smaller cities.
