In a tweet, PM Modi on Sunday urged citizens to follow Covid guidelines and participate in ‘Tika Utsav‘ beginning today till April 14.
The call for the vaccine festival was made by the Prime Minister during his interaction with chief ministers of all states and union territories on Thursday.
“Can we celebrate Tika Utsav from April 11 to April 14? During this time, we should vaccinate as many eligible people as possible and target zero vaccine wastage,” PM Modi had said at the meeting.
Several states such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are gearing up with appeals being made to eligible people to get themselves vaccinated during the duration of the ‘Tika Utsav’.
India has been witnessing an unprecedented surge of coronavirus cases since the start of the year. India recorded more than 1.5 lakh fresh Covid-19 infections on Saturday, becoming the second country after the US to register the grim milestone on the back of a sharp uptick in cases from the Hindi heartland, particularly Chhattisgarh, UP and Bihar.
India is the fastest nation to administer 100 million doses in 85 days, the Union health ministry said on Saturday. As of Saturday evening, the cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 10,12,84,282.
However, the festival also begins amid claims of vaccine shortage in the country.
Several states including Maharashtra, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand have said they won’t be able to continue the inoculation drive due to shortage of vaccine doses. View More | Source: Times of India
