Olympus is part of OM Digital Solution known for its professional cameras. The leakster says that the Japan-based camera company may offer branding as well as expertise in key areas of photography and videography for future Samsung flagship phones.
While a report by Mashable says that either of the two companies are yet to confirm the partnership, it is being allegedly said that Olympus cameras may debut with a special edition of Samsung Galaxy Fold or with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
Companies partnering with camera and optical product companies is the new trend in the smartphone industry. Recently, OnePlus collaborated with Sweden-based Hasselblad for its OnePlus 9 series phones. Vivo too offers Zeiss optics powered lenses for the X series smartphones. HMD-Global owned Nokia has partnered long time back with Carl Zeiss optics for its flagship models. While Huawei has Leica-powered camera lenses for its flagship phones.
Mashable further cites a report by Tom’s Guide France which asserts leaksters 'FrontTron' and 'Ice Universe' confirming the possible partnership between Samsung and Olympus in the future. With the partnership will allow Samsung to improve cameras on its smartphones, the partnership is itself intriguing. This is because Samsung along with Sony is one of the most reputed producers of camera sensors.
