Cong candidate dies of corona, counting will go ahead as scheduled

Madurai, Apr 11 (UNI) Mr PSW Madhava Rao, who contested the April
six Assembly elections as the Congress candidate from Srivilliputhur
constituency, died here today after testing positive for COVID-19.
Mr Rao had tested positive for the virus during campaigning and was
admitted to the government hospital.
As he had serious infection in the lungs, he was shifted to a private
hospital in this temple town and admitted in the ICU as his health
condition deteriorated.
He was also put on ventilator support. However, he breathed his last
today.
A legal consultant, Rao has been a member of the Congress since
1986 and had also served as the state vice-president of the Tamil
Nadu Youth Congress.
Hailing from Watrap in the southern Virudhunagar district, Mr Rao
contested the elections first time.
TNCC President K S Alagiri, Mr Sanjay Dutt, AICC secretary in-charge
of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and DMK President M K Stalin condoled
the death of Rao.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said
the counting of votes on May two will not be affected because of the
death of the Congress candidate.
The counting will take place as scheduled.
If Mr Rao wins the election, the seat will be declared as vacant and a
bypoll will be held in six months, he added.
