Man fatally shot Friday inside Kansas City, Kansas home
Kansas City, Kansas, police were investigating a homicide Friday afternoon after a person was fatally shot inside a home in the 2200 block of Birch Street.
At 2:32 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a call for a shooting inside a residence. Responding officers found a man inside a home who had been shot, and he was later declared dead at the scene, said Officer Marshee London, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
Police said the shooting appeared to stem from an argument that had occurred inside the residence. Officers arrested a male suspect about 2:47 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing him walking away from the scene of the shooting, police said.
The shooting occurred in a home across the street from Argentine Middle School, which was temporarily placed on lockdown while police sought a suspect. Police said the lockdown order was put in place as a precaution and was very brief.
London said additional school resource officers were also dispatched to the scene to help ensure the school dismissal was orderly because of the heavy police presence there.
Police attributed the quick arrest of the suspect to detailed suspect information given to responding officers by nearby witnesses.
By 3:45 p.m., police announced the scene was secured and a suspect was in custody.
