Bhubaneswar, Apr 10 (UNI) Odisha reported 1374 new covid cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 812 new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 562 as local contact in the past 24 hours from 29 districts in the state.
A 77-year-old man from Bolangir and another 27 year old from Kendrapara succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment in the past 24 hours taking the total covid toll in the state to 1926.
In the past 24 hours, a maximum of 355 new positive cases was registered in the Sundargarh district followed by Khordha (193), Nuapada ( 135), Bargarh ( 59), Jharsuguda ( 52) and Cuttack (51).
Out of 29 districts, only eight districts have reported single-digit new covid cases in the past 24 hours.
Official sources said till the midnight of April 9, as many as 93,38,708 tests were conducted in the state and 3,48,182 of them found infected with coronavirus of which 3,39,200 already cured.
The state has now 7003 active cases under treatment at various hospitals.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed happiness that Odisha has administered more than 40 lakh vaccine doses achieving a major milestone in COVID-19 vaccination.
Mr Patnaik commended the commitment of the healthcare workers in ensuring swift immunisation across the state.
Sources said in the past three days during the special drive launched by the Odisha police action has been taken against 33,346 violators of Covid protocols in the State and penal fines amounting to Rs. 90,67,600 have been collected.
The commissioner of police has formed special teams and deployed 10 platoons of forces on patrolling duty to ensure that people used masks.
Sources said CCTV cameras installed at various places in the twin
cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city will now keep a vigil on the covid violators and collect fine from them in violation of covid protocols on the basis of CCTV footage.
On the third day of the special Covid enforcement drive, Odisha Police today acted against 12145 violators of mask usage and social distancing rules and collected Rs. 38, 98, 250 as fine in last 24 hours.
