THANE: A sudden shortage of oxygen supply to nearly 30 critical patients was reported at the newly inaugurated parking plaza field hospital in Thane, Saturday evening, forcing the municipal administration to hurriedly relocate them to the Global hospital at Saket.
The shortage of around 30 oxygen beds at the facility was felt around 6pm on Saturday following which the administration immediately decided to relocate the patients. The facility has an oxygen tank of 13 tonne capacity to handle the majority of the 350 plus beds here. An arrangement was immediately made at the Global hospital following which the patients were shifted turn by turn in special ambulances with oxygen facilities.
“We had to immediately classify patients and prioritise critical ones to be shifted. There were few ambulances available to handle this emergency. The shifting was slow but we ensured the condition of patients was not affected. Around eight patients were already admitted while the rest would happen by late night,” informed an official.
Ganesh Deshmukh, additional municipal commissioner said there was a delay in arrival of the oxygen supply from the manufacturing plant. “We were assured of supply by late night but we didn’t want to take any chances so we shifted the patients in the evening itself to Global hospital. The situation will be normalised by tomorrow morning after which we will resume admitting oxygen patients there,” he said.
