TRICHY: The MP of Trichy Lok Sabha constituency Su Thirunavukkarasar on Saturday met the defence minister Rajnath Singh at New Delhi and sought to transfer the land required for completing Trichy junction road over bridge (RoB) project.
Awaiting a linear portion of defence land in Trichy city, a road overbridge conceptualised and constructed to decongest the city remains incomplete for over three years now.
“As the home department of the state government has identified compensatory land in exchange of 0.66 acres of defence land in Mannarpuram, the defence minister was requested to expedite the land transfer process. The traffic congestion recurring in Trichy city due to the incomplete RoB awaiting the defence land was apprised,” said Thirunavukkarasar.
The state government has identified compensatory land in the Tamil Nadu state police battalion’s property situated adjacent to the defence property near the RoB in Mannarpuram.
Although the defence ministry was requested to accept the compensatory land to cede the defence land, there was no progress in completing the land transfer and constructing the pending portion of the RoB.
