Jaipur: Post-swachh survey, waste collection goes for a toss

In most outer areas, garbage vans reach after 3 days or alternate days
JAIPUR: Since past eight days, garbage collection vehicles haven’t collected waste from homes of Ramgarh Mod residents in city.
Bhagwandas Soni, a resident of the area, said they are fed up of the tardy door-to-door collection in the city. “Dry waste is kept in bags, but what are we supposed to do with the wet waste. There have been a lot of problems in the entire locality. Vehicles come on the main road, but avoid interior lanes.”
Swachh Survekshan 2021 was completed on March 31 and since then the condition of sanitation in the city has deteriorated. Now-a-days, piles of garbage are seen even on the main roads. Garbage is strewn at Chaura Rasta, Kishanpole market and interior lanes of Hawa Mahal area.
Surendra Singh, former councillor of Hawa Mahal area, said he has been receiving complaints every day about the problematic condition in the city. Garbage and sanitation issues are sidelined as the company hired for the collection is not working efficiently. In most of the outer areas, vehicles are reaching after a 3-day delay or alternate days.
The company hired for the garbage collection has also sub-let the contract to someone else. This has been done three times. Now the actual persons on the ground are not working as payment is not cleared by the company which was officially granted the tender.
Abhay Purohit, chairman of sanitation committee, said they have been getting hundreds of complaints every day against the company. “We have given the company one-week ultimatum within which if the sanitation condition doesn’t improve, then we will find some alternate source to pick up garbage. The company is a complete fraud and every day distress calls are being received. We will soon take some action,” Purohit said.
