The Fatorda block Congress Committee under the banner of ‘Congress for Fatorda’ has declared that six of the Congress workers from Fatorda are contesting the Margao municipal election scheduled on April 23.

This declaration was made by the president of the Fatorda block Congress committee, Piedade Fernandes even though the Congress legislator and former chief minister, Digambar Kamat had an understanding at the local level to tie up with the Goa Forward Party and together declared a panel – Margao civic alliance to contest the Margao municipal election collectively with the aim of defeating the
BJP.

This means, the Congress workers of Fatorda will fight the municipal elections against Margao civic alliance candidates. They will now cross swords against the  Goa Forward  Party (GFP) backed candidates in Fatorda.  Those Congress workers who have  filed their candidature to contest from  Fatorda includes  Fatima Barretto from  ward 3,  Sandra Jessy Vas from ward 4,  Yogesh Arvind Nagvenkar will try his luck from  ward 6,  Roshal  Fernandes from ward 9,  Luma Rajat Kamat from ward 10,  Babulal Sayed from ward 11.

Fernandes said, “Besides this, we are also supporting the independent candidates who do not enjoy any other political party support.

“When I had a meeting with (Digambar) Kamat, the Congress legislator of Margao, I had told him in the presence of Girish Chodankar that Vijai Sardesai should resign as an NDA member then only we the Fatorda block Congress can think about joining hands with GFP in Fatorda. The party had taken a stand that the local leadership will decide on how to contest the municipal election and with whom to support to defeat the BJP” said Aashish Kamat of the Fatorda congress block.

Trajano D’Mello condemned Digambar Kamat and Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco for joining hands with Goa Forward Party to contest the municipal election.
