Assembly Election 2021 News LIVE Updates: A total 1,15,81,022 voters including 58,82,514 men, 56,98,218 women and 290 members of the third gender, will decide the fate of 373 candidates in West Bengal assembly elections phase four polling where voting will be held in 44 assembly seats scheduled in five districts. The constituencies are spread over Howrah (Part II), South 24 Parganas (Part III), Hooghly (Part II) in south Bengal and in north Bengal’s Alipurduar and Coochbehar. Residents aged 18 and above will vote between 7 am and 6.30 pm in 15,940 polling stations.
At stake are nine assembly constituencies in Howrah, 11 in South 24 Parganas, five in Alipurduar, nine in Coochbehar and ten in Hooghly. Among those whose fate will be decided at the hustings are former Bengal Ranji captain Manoj Tiwary, TMC’s candidate from Shibpur, state education minister and sitting MLA from Behala Paschim Partha Chatterjee and central minister Babul Supriyo of the BJP who has locked horns with state sports minister Arup Biswas for the Tollygunge seat.
Ratna Chatterjee, wife of former city mayor and fire minister Sovan Chatterjee, who left Mamata Banerjee’s TMC to join the BJP for a short period, is facing BJP’s actress- turned politician Payel Sarkar in Behala Purbo seat. Former state forest minister, Rajib Banerjee, who moved to the BJP recently is contesting from Domjur while BJP MP and actress Locket Chatterjee is contesting the polls from Chinsurah in Hooghly district.

PM Urges People to Vote in Record Numbers in West Bengal Polls | Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the voters in the fourth phase of the West Bengal election to cast their votes in record numbers on Saturday. "As the 4th phase of the West Bengal elections begin, urging the people voting today to do so in record numbers. I would especially request the youth and women to vote in large numbers," he said in a tweet soon after the polling began. Polling began at 7 am for 44 seats in the fourth phase of the West Bengal Assembly election amid tight security.
25% Candidates in Phase-5 of WB Polls Declared Criminal Cases Against Themselves | One-fourth of the total 318 candidates contesting in the fifth phase of West Bengal polls have declared criminal cases against themselves, according to a report by elections watchdog Association for Democratic Reforms. The West Bengal Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 318 candidates. Out of 318 candidates analyzed, 79 (25 per cent) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves and 64 (20 per cent) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves, the report said. Among the major parties, 28 of the 45 candidates (62%) of the BJP, 18 of the 42 candidates (43%) out of the Trinamool Congress, 10 of the 25 candidates (10%) analysed from the CPI(M), two of the 11 candidates ((18%) of the Congress have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits, according to the report.

With its 54 seats spread across seven districts, North Bengal is pegged to be the game-changer in the ongoing Assembly elections.
Amit Shah Holds Two Roadshows in Bengal; Claims BJP is Winning 63-68 Seats in First Three Phases | Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday took part in two colourful roadshows in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, and claimed the BJP is winning 63-68 seats in the first three phases and will get over 200 seats after the final results are declared. During roadshow in Madhyamagram in the evening, Shah waved at the crowd from a stage atop a luxary bus which was decked up with flowers and the BJP's poll symbol, lotus. Voting Underway in 9 Seats of Howrah Amid Strict Covid Protocol | Voting is underway with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols in nine seats in Howrah district, 11 in South 24 Parganas, five in Alipurduar, nine in Cooch Behar and 10 in Hooghly, official said. Long queues were seen outside polling stations where voting will continue till 6.30 pm.

Mamata Alleges Shah Trying to Incite Violence in Bengal | West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday alleged Home Minister Amit Shah was trying to incite violence in the state and egging the police to engage in unethical acts.
