Uttar Pradesh: Sweets, snacks meant to 'woo' voters during panchayat elections seized in Unnao

A police team seized huge quantities of sweets and snacks from the spot.
LUCKNOW: The police on Saturday seized large quantities of sweets and snacks meant to be distributed among the voters in Unnao ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections.
Hasanganj station house officer Mukul Verma told TOI that an informer tipped off the police that the husband of a contestant from Bichwara village Raju Maurya had organised a grand feast offering jalebis, samosas, khasta along with spicy potatoes to the villagers.
“A police team raided the village and recovered 2 quintal jalebis, 1,500 pieces of samosas, 500 pieces of Khasta and spicy potatoes along with desi ghee, wheat flour (maida)," the SHO said.
Verma said that it was not only the violation of poll code but also the violation of the Covid-19 protocol.
Raju Maurya along with nine others were booked under charges of violation of the Epidemic Act.
