Telangana achieves 1 lakh tests, 1 lakh vaccines per day

Hyderabad: Telangana did a lakh Covid-19 tests and one lakh applied Covid vaccines within a single day.

The state health authorities reached this milestone on Thursday. Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr G. Srinivasa Rao, stated on Friday that it shows public awareness about the detection of and protection against Covid.

With the increase in Covid In those cases, the state doubled the number of daily tests.

For the first time since the pandemic broke out, authorities took more than one lakh test on Thursday. Of the total of 1,0986 tests performed during the past 24 hours, 89,645 samples were tested in government laboratories and 12,341 in private laboratories.

The official said rapid antigen tests are being done at 1,064 centers.

He also stated that RT-PCR test centers will be opened in 15 district headquarters in the coming days. The department is taking steps to ensure that more than 25,000 RT-PCR tests are performed in the state every day.

The Telangana High Court took the authorities to action on Thursday for failing to conduct adequate RT-PCR tests.

The court expressed its displeasure over fewer RT-PCR tests at a time when the second wave of the pandemic is sweeping the country. It has asked health authorities to increase RT-PCR tests to 70 per cent of all Covid tests according to guidelines issued by the Central Government.

The health authorities applied on Thursday Covid vaccines to 1,02886 people, the highest in a day. They have given 17.83 lakh doses so far.

Director of Public Health said vaccination is underway in more than 1,100 centers across the state. The health department plans to increase the numbers in the coming days.

Rao said the Sero survey will be done in all districts except Hyderabad.

The director also pointed out that 80 percent of about 10,000 beds in government hospitals were vacant.
