NLCIL enhances its mining capacity by 66 per cent, green power generation by 39 per cent

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has increased its mining capacity by 66 per cent and its green power generation capacity by 39 per cent in the 2020-21 fiscal year when compared to FY 2019-2020.
The company has also added 515.5MW capacity — a 500MW lignite-based thermal power plant and a 17.5MW solar power plant with a battery energy storage system — in the last fiscal year. With this, the total installed capacity of the company increased to 6,061.06MW, according to a release.
The company ventured into the coal mining business launching its activities at its Talabira mines in Odisha, with a capacity of 20 metric tonne per annum (MTPA). With this, the total mining capacity of the company increased from 30.60 MTPA to 50.60 MTPA. The company also surpassed its target of 0.937 MTPA and achieved actual coal production of 1.013 MTPA.
The company and its subsidiaries generated 24,613 million units of power during the fiscal year 2020-21. It has augmented its renewable power plants, in line with the Union government’s vision on renewable energy (RE). The present installed capacity of RE is 1,421.06MW.
The renewable power generation is up by 39 per cent, from 1,481 million units in 2019-2020 to 2,057 million units in the fiscal year 2020-21.
