Queen Elizabeth Enters 8 Day Period of Mourning After Death of Husband Prince Philip
Queen Elizabeth is mourning.
The 94-year-old monarch will mourn her late husband of 73 years across an eight-day period, and will refrain from carrying out royal duties during this time, People reported Friday (April 9).

The royal wedding took place on November 20, 1947 at Westminster Abbey in London, United Kingdom. Philip was made Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich on the morning of the wedding. Find out more about his royal titles over the years.
After the eight day period of mourning, a longer period of Royal Mourning is expected. The country is also expected to enter a 10 day mourning period. Royal households will mourn for 30 days.
Guardsmen will wear black armbands on their tunics throughout that time period.
