MYSURU: Tourists and visitors to
Mysuru from Bengaluru will have to produce
Covid-19 negative reports not older than 72 hours. The rule is applicable to even those visiting theaters, resorts, convention halls, party halls, and recreation clubs.
Fearing a rush of Bengalureans over the weekend due to
Ugadi celebrations, the district administration has requested all from the capital city to carry negative certificates. Police permission will also have to be obtained for events such as weddings.
While announcing the new SOPs, which come into force from April 10, Rohini Sindhuri, district deputy commissioner, and Chandra Gupta, Mysuru police commissioner, appealed to people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.
“Cases are surging in the city and we need to be extra cautious,” Sindhuri said. “To ensure that the infection does not spread to villages, we are requesting those from Bengaluru to carry Covid-19 negative certificates.”
However, she said there is no proposal to close tourist spots. She said 300 home guards will be deputed to implement the rules. “Stringent action will be taken against violators,” she said.
Gupta said wedding organisers must seek permission from the jurisdictional ACP. “We are not interfering in the dates, but we want organisers to share details with the police so that we ensure rules are followed.”
The new rules have not gone down well with tourism stakeholders. C Narayana Gowda, president, Mysuru Hotel Owners Association, said: “The tourism sector is already reeling from losses. The new rules will only discourage tourists from visiting Mysuru.”
