Nagpur: At least four people have been killed and several others injured in a serious fire that broke out in a private hospital late Friday, officials said.
The fire allegedly broke out in the air-conditioning unit of an ICU ward on the second floor of the five-story hospital building.
There were still at least 37 patients on the floor of which four were rescued and the rest ran alone out of safety, and another 27 were moved to a nearby hospital, an official said.
At least four firefighters rushed to the scene to fight the massive fire, and more details are awaited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sadness over the incident and tweeted: “Sad about the hospital fire in Nagpur. My thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives. Pray that the injured can recover as soon as possible. ”
