NEW DELHI: After Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, now Rajasthan has also written to the Centre about shortage of Covid vaccines in the state and has sought 30 lakh doses to continue with the inoculation drive.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has said "The present stock of vaccine in Rajasthan will finish in the next 2 days."
Many state governments have recently complained of vaccine shortage to the Union government and have asked it to send more vaccines to keep up the vaccination drive.
The Centre has however vehemently denied the claims of vaccine shortage. Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday said shortage in Congress-ruled states is "not of vaccines but of basic commitment towards healthcare."
Prasad's comment came hours after Rahul Gandhi wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging "vaccine starvation" in the nation.
Rahul, in his letter to the Prime Minister, demanded an immediate moratorium on Covid-19 vaccine exports and opening up of the vaccination to "everyone who needs it".
Union health minister Harsh Vardhan had on Thursday asked the states to "stop fear-mongering."
On Wednesday, he had accused Maharashtra and some other states of trying to cover their "failures" in containing the pandemic by making "deplorable" attempts through "irresponsible" statements to distract attention and spreading panic among people.
