The Maharashtra government has postponed the upcoming MPSC exams that were slated to be held on April 11. The news comes after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday held a meeting to decide on the same, amid rising COVID-19 cases in the state.

Amid rising COVID-19 cases in the state, there had been growing pressure to cancel or delay the exams. Several candidates who had registered for the non-gazetted group B preliminary combined examination had also tested positive in recent days, even as others took to social media platforms clamouring for postponement.

The exam now remains cancelled until further notice, and a fresh date is yet to be announced. CM Thackeray also met with representatives of private hospitals and the diamond association on Friday. In the meantime, Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray has also reportedly received messages from students of Class 10 and 12 over concerns about the upcoming board exams.

While Maharashtra on Thursday reported a slight dip with 56,286 new COVID-19 cases, the state has been placed under a partial lockdown until the end of April. But as the case tally continues to remain high, officials including Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Relief and Rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar have hinted at a complete lockdown for three weeks.
