Netherlands PM Mark Rutte applauded India for ‘Vaccine Maitri’ program for supplying COVID-19 vaccines to other countries.

On Friday, April 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a Virtual Summit with the Prime Minister of Netherlands, Mark Rutte. The Netherlands PM applauded India’s efforts during the pandemic and said, “I appreciate your government’s efforts to support Dutch investors who faced challenges last year during the first wave of the COVID19 pandemic. Your support helped ensure the continuation of trade between our countries even in those difficult times,” as quoted by ANI.

Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte appreciated India’s ‘Vaccine Maitri’ program to supply COVID-19 vaccines to other countries and said, “We applaud India for the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ program. We also congratulate India on its election as a non-permanent member of the UNSC. In our view, India is an obvious candidate for a permanent seat of an expanded council.”
PM Mark Rutte also talked about India’s relationship and partnership with Netherlands and said, “Our partnership is based on shared values of democracy and rule of law. Our approach towards challenges like climate change, terrorism, pandemic is similar. We’re also developing convergence in new areas like Indo-pacific resilient supply chains & global digital governance.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Netherlands Prime Minister for his victory in the parliamentary election.
During the Summit, the two leaders discussed in detail of bilateral cooperation and looked at new ways of strengthening the relationship. Leaders also exchanged views on the regional and global issues of mutual interest.
India and Netherlands share cordial and friendly relations underpinned by shared values of democracy, rule of law and freedom. Both the countries have wide ranging cooperation including in areas of water management, agriculture and food processing, healthcare, smart cities and urban mobility, science and technology, renewable energy and space. The two countries also share a robust economic partnership with the Netherlands being the third largest investor in India. There are over 200 Dutch companies present in India with a similar presence of Indian businesses in the Netherlands.
