Wife of senior GST official takes poison in Noida, kin allege dowry death

NOIDA: The wife of an assistant commissioner with the GST department in Delhi allegedly died by suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at a Sector 99 society in Noida on Wednesday afternoon. Her family members, however, alleged harassment and dowry demands behind her death.
The incident took place in Supreme Towers in Noida Sector 99 and the woman was admitted to a private hospital but died later in the day. Police said that the deceased was identified as Hina Singhla (26), wife of Amit Singhla, assistant commissioner of GST in Delhi. Hina was a chartered accountant and was also pursuing law from Panjab University.
Hina is from Punjab and got married to Amit on October 28, 2020.
A relative of the deceased said that after marriage, Amit and his family kept harassing her for dowry.
“She was in depression and would hardly talk to anyone.,” he said, adding that on April 6, Hina had called her mother and said that she was unable to bear the harassment anymore.
He added, “Her parents and aunt reached Noida on April 6 to resolve the matter and the next day, they decided to take her back to Punjab. But her husband again started fighting and Hina consumed poison.”
Ranvijay Singh, additional DCP of Noida, said that they reached the spot after getting information and took her to the hospital. “Her condition was serious and she died late on Wednesday,” he said.
“On the basis of a complaint by the family, an FIR has been registered against Amit, his father and mother under the Section 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and Section 304-B (dowry death) of IPC. We have detained the suspect and the investigation is underway,” Singh added.
