10 days after e-way collapse, debris will now be removed

Gurgaon: After nearly 10 days since the work on the elevated segment of the Dwarka Expressway was stopped, following the collapse of a section of an under-construction flyover, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given the contractor the permission to carry out the debris removal work.
On Wednesday, the highways authority allowed the Dwarka Expressway contractor—L&T—to begin with the debris removal work on the project site. During the debris removal work, the NHAI officials will regularly visit the site to monitor the work and ensure that the contractor is paying due diligence to the safety measures prescribed by the highways authority. The construction work on the elevated section shall continue to be suspended as the special committee of the highways authority is yet to release its investigation report.
“The work on the elevated segment was suspended to facilitate sample collection for our internal investigation. While the construction work on the elevated segment stands suspended until further notice, the contractor has now been asked to clear the damaged portion and remove the debris from the area. The work should be completed in 20 days,” said an NHAI official privy to the matter.
The work on removing the debris began with due compliance to the guidelines issued by the NHAI committee probing the collapse. The contractor has been given around 20 days to finish work, officials said.
According to the project contractor, the work will be carried out in four stages. “We will be able to complete this in 20 days. NHAI has issued us the SOP for the same and we have designed our debris removal work in four stages,” said Anil Chaudhary, planning in-charge, L&T, NHAIcontractor.
