Ghaziabad: Jal Nigam engineer held over Rs 13L bribe

A trap was laid on Thursday and Satish was caught red-handed
GHAZIABAD: An engineer of Jal Nigam of Ghaziabad was on Thursday arrested by the vigilance department of Meerut for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 13 lakh.
According to the vigilance officer, the accused is identified as Vikram Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad.
Sudheer Kumar, circle officer of vigilance department, told TOI that the Jal Nigam gave a contract of Rs 3.6 crore to Satish Kumar to clean the silt in the water pipeline from Muradnagar in Ghaziabad to Delhi.
The accused engineer asked for Rs 25 lakh from Satish as a bribe for measuring the silt, only after which the work could start.
The CO added that on March 5, Satish met Vikram in his office and made a deal of Rs 21 lakh, to be paid in two installments. Vikram asked Satish to pay Rs 13 lakh on April 8 and the second installment within two months. “In the meantime, Satish complained to the vigilance department. A trap was laid on Thursday and Satish was nabbed red-handed while taking the bribe,” he said.
The suspect was booked under the Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The accused will be produced in court on Friday.
