UP hits all-time high in new coronavirus cases, exceeding 9 thousand in a day for first time
Lucknow: The number of new coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh hit a record daily high since the outbreak of the pandemic with over 9 thousand new infections being reported in a span of 24 hours, the state also broke all previous records on Thursday with 8,490 coronavirus cases, These numbers surpassed the previous peak recorded in the state on September 11 with 7,042 cases.

On Friday evening, the state reported 36 more fatalities due to COVID-19 and 9,587 new cases, raising the death toll due to the novel coronavirus in the state to 9,039 and the case tally to 6,63,991, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.
There are 48,306 active cases and while 6,06,646 patients have recovered so far in the state.
Among the active cases, 22,904 people are in home isolation, 835 in private hospitals and the rest undergoing treatment in government hospitals, he said.
Of the fresh cases, nearly half are from four districts — Lucknow, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Varanasi and Kanpur.
These four districts have been the hardest-hit. While 2,500 people tested positive in Lucknow, Prayagraj reported 1,140 cases, followed by 886 in Varanasi and 500 in Kanpur.
Lucknow is by far the worst-hit district with 10,749 active cases, followed by 4,517 in Prayagraj, 3,726 in Varanasi and 1,400 in Kanpur.
The state has so far has tested over 3.63 crore samples, including over 1.97 lakh on Thursday.
Over 81 lakh people have been administered the Covid-19 vaccine in the state. It includes over 69 lakh who have got the first shot and over 11 lakh who have been administered both doses, Prasad said.
