Tatjana Schoenmaker powers to African record at SA Aquatics Championships

South African swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker powered to claim the gold in the 200m breaststroke at the SA Aquatics Championships in Gqeberha on Friday evening.

In the third day of the tournament, Schoenmaker secured her second gold in emphatic style, winning with a new African Record and Olympic Qualification time of 2:20.17.

The 23-year-old bettered her own 2019 time of 2:21.79 in her speciality event.

Schoenmaker finished over six seconds ahead of Kaylene Corbett in 2:26.59 and Emily Visagie in 2:30.45 in the 200m event.

Meanwhile, Olympic gold medallist Chad le Clos claimed silver in the 200m freestyle Maritzburg teenager Matt Sates took gold in a 1:48.08 with Le Clos touching the wall second in 1:48.48.

Christian Sadie (S7) raced to his second Paralympic qualification in the 50m freestyle, winning the event in a new SA record time of 29.03 - bettering his own 2019 time of 29.06.
