CHANDIGARH: The UT police did not arrest anyone for violating night curfew on the first day. The cops carried out a search drive to check the compliance of the orders in the city on Wednesday night.
The teams were seen patrolling in sectors 22, 15, 11, 10, 17 and other parts of the city and directed the shopkeepers to close their shops by 10.30 pm.
The police also found some people roaming on roads after 10 pm and they were let off with warnings. The police said they made people, icecream vendors and other persons aware about the night curfew and would arrest violators in the coming days.
The cops were also seen patrolling in the residential areas to enforce the curfew effectively. The UT administrator had imposed night curfew in the city from 10.30 pm to 5 am on April 6. The administrator also directed the police to deal with violators strictly.
During the night curfew hours, non-essential activities, gatherings and parties in clubs have been banned.
The cops have already issued slips to 6,334 people for spitting in the open, roaming without masks and not maintaining social distancing.
Mohali sees 2 deaths, 456 cases
The Mohali district saw two deaths and 456 positive cases on Thursday.
As many as 267 patients also recovered. Officials of the health department said the total number of positive cases reported in the district so far is 29,974, of which, 25,043 have recovered.
The active cases have now reached 4,464. The total deaths in the district are 467.
239 down with virus in Panchkula
The Panchkula district reported 239 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, taking the total case tally to 14,292 cases, including 1,167 active cases.
Chief medical officer Dr Jasjeet Kaur said as many as 12,969 patients have recovered so far. The total death tally stands at 156.
