CHENNAI: The
Tamil Nadu government on Thursday urged people aged above 45 years to get vaccinated in government hospitals and recognized private hospitals within two weeks.
An official statement said that field-level teams will be set up in every zone of the
Greater Chennai Corporation to bring down transmission of
Covid-19.
READ ALSO: Tamil Nadu announces new restrictionsSimilarly, surveillance teams will be set up in all districts. Round-the-clock surveillance will be done in containment zones through police, local bodies and health department staff.
Volunteers will be engaged to get essential goods for the families in containment zones, besides taking control measures.
“The general public should wear masks mandatorily. The infectious disease can be controlled effectively if only they wash hands at home and outside periodically, maintain social distance and avoid stepping out unnecessarily, and extend full support,” the statement said.
The officials concerned will monitor the enforcement of standard operating procedures.
Police, health, revenue and local body staff have been directed to hold fever camps, check people with symptoms of fever, cold and cough daily at doorstep and do contact tracing and further tests.
District collectors and commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation have been directed to enforce the measures.
There is a rise in
Covid cases in the state in the recent days due to events and rallies and also due to people not wearing masks and not following the standard operating procedures. The active cases that stood at 13,070 on March 28 rose to 27,743 on April 7.
The statement said the health department was conducting 80,000
RT-PCR tests a day and increased and aggressive testing in affected areas.
The government has set up a team led by commissioner of revenue administration and disaster management to monitor the situation and advisories being issued to the department concerned for preventive measures.
