Flyover at Bakhtawar Chowk to check snarls

GMDA is already working on a redevelopment project
Gurgaon: In order to streamline the traffic and tackle snarls at Bakhtawar Chowk, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is planning to build a flyover at the junction. A team is currently working on the detailed project report for the flyover which will be tabled for the approval in the upcoming authority meeting.
According to a senior GMDA official, the spot sees a lot of traffic congestion and a flyover would be the best solution to the problem. “The flyover would start on the Huda City Centre and end on the Subhash Chowk side. We are still finalising the other details,” said the official requesting anonymity. He added that the proposal for the flyover will be tabled in the authority meeting on Friday.
Once approved, the tenders will be floated in the coming months and the work would then start. It must be mentioned that GMDA’s other civic infrastructure projects, including the redevelopment of Huda City Centre and Mahaveer Chowk, are running months behind the deadline.
Officials said that GMDA is already working on a redevelopment project for the Bakhtawar junction. However according to the sources, the redevelopment might only serve as a short term solution and a flyover would be required in the long term.
The metropolitan authority expects the vehicular traffic at the junction to increase at the junction as a metro station and Ikea store is planned in the vicinity. TOI had earlier reported that the redevelopment of these two junctions was also proposed in GMDA’s draft mobility plan. As a part of the revamp plan, the length of the slip roads on both the junctions will be increased.
“At the Bakhtawar chowk, the length of the slip road going towards Huda city centre will be increased by 100-150 meters so that the commuters wanting to go left do not have to wait at the signals there by reducing the length of the queues at the traffic signals. Similarly,
